Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is extending for a further 3 years the contract to operate and maintain its Metrolink tram network awarded since 2017 to KeolisAmey Metrolink Ltd (KAM), the joint venture between Keolis Group (60%) and UK company Amey (40%).
Opened in 1992, Metrolink is the UK's largest tram network, with 7 lines and 100km of track carrying 147 trams serving around 100 stops across Greater Manchester's city centres, airport and suburbs. It is a key part of Greater Manchester's public transport system, which combines trams with buses, cycle paths and walking routes - with plans to include local rail services by 2030.
Over the three years of the contract extension, KeolisAmey Metrolink will continue to support the Greater Manchester Transport Authority in achieving its objectives. The aim is to increase the number of passengers using the network by improving the quality of service provided to passengers. The serenity and safety on board will be the focus of particular attention, in line with the measures taken since 2017 with the increased presence of security officers on the network and the signing of a partnership with the Greater Manchester Police Force. The aim is also to optimise the network's performance by 2027.
