A major step toward 100% decarbonized mobility

First-of-Its-Kind in Europe

On November 21, 2024, at the Keolis Alpes Maritimes depot in Antibes, the first launch of double-decker electric coaches in Europe was celebrated. These 16 vehicles, operating on the ZOU! line connecting Nice to Sophia Antipolis, represent a significant milestone in environmentally friendly public transportation. With Marie-Ange Debon, President of the Keolis Group, and Jean-Pierre Serrus, Vice President of Transport for the Sud Region, in attendance, this event marked a decisive step forward in the energy transition of the transport sector.

Innovative vehicles serving passengers

These double-decker electric coaches offer a range of 300 kilometers, sufficient to meet the needs of the 800,000 passengers expected annually. In addition to being eco-friendly, they feature modern services such as WiFi, USB ports, and optimal comfort. This project reflects the Sud Region's ambition to become a model of sustainability while enhancing the passenger experience.

A project backed by proven expertise

Keolis plays a central role in this project, leveraging its expertise to deploy solutions that combine service quality with carbon emission reduction. During the inauguration, Sabine, a driver on the ZOU! line, shared her experience, emphasizing the operational adjustments required to integrate these new vehicles.

A strong partnership with the Sud Region

This project highlights the successful collaboration between Keolis and the Sud Region - Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, aimed at achieving fully decarbonized mobility. As Jean-Pierre Serrus stated, “This initiative reflects the Region's commitment to becoming a national benchmark for sustainable transport.”

The express coach project and SERM: tailored solutions for territories

The Express Coach project is fully aligned with the approach of the Regional Metropolitan Express Services (SERM), a key tool for ecological transition and territorial development. These services combine coach lines, express carpooling, and multimodal connections to meet diverse mobility needs. They provide a credible and effective alternative to private cars, reducing greenhouse gas emissions while facilitating travel between rural, suburban, and metropolitan areas.

SERM leverages the complementarity of trains and express coaches, enabling seamless territorial connections while enhancing the frequency and quality of services. They also integrate modern stations, comfortable vehicles, and innovative features such as real-time information and attractive pricing.

A vision for the future of territories

Initiatives such as the Express Coach project and SERM are part of a broader vision to provide smooth, efficient, and environmentally friendly journeys from start to finish. This innovative model could inspire other regions and contribute to a successful national energy transition.

A commitment to future generations

This inauguration represents more than just technological progress—it embodies a genuine commitment to ensuring a sustainable future. Through initiatives like electric coaches, the Express Coach project, and SERM, the Sud Region, in partnership with Keolis, is paving the way for greener mobility solutions, addressing climate challenges while improving the quality of life for citizens.
